DetectedFailure is detected by the function or system and some mitigating action is automatically implemented by the function or system, which may involve annunciation of the failure [AMC to CS25.1309].
Development Assurance LevelA (qualitative) specification or description of how much reliance will be placed on a particular system function. Used to prescribe the level of rigour which must be applied when developing the function.
Development Assurance. All those planned and systematic actions used to substantiate, to an adequate level of confidence, that errors in requirements, design, and implementation have been identified and corrected such that the system satisfies the applicable certification basis [AMC to CS25.1309].
Directional gyro (DG)Instrument accurately registering direction aircraft is heading. When aligned with compass, provides immediate indication of changes in magnetic heading.
DisplayAny form of visual presentation of system operation information to the flight or ground crew [AMC to CS25.1309]
DiversionA diversion is the landing of an aircraft at an airport other than the airport of origin or destination [AMC to CS25.1309].
DMEDistance Measuring Equipment. Radio navigation aid providing pilot with constant readout of distance from selected radio beacon.
ECAMElectronic Centralised Aircraft Monitoring [System].
EFCSElectronic Flight Control System.
EFISElectronic Flight Instrumentation System.
EICASEngine Indication and Crew Alerting System
ELACElevator/Aileron Computer.
ElevationHeight of terrain above mean sea level. Abbreviated MSL.
ElevatorsControl surfaces at rear of horizontal tail (tailplane), controlling nose attitude of aircraft.
